A few years back, on a livestream and purely as a joke, I said Lemmings was a load of old rubbish that should go in the bin. Ever since, its creator Mike Dailly has been tormenting me. This time he sent a whole box, so I opened it live with a knife for the tape and a hammer in case any lemmings jumped out. This video was supported by PCBWay.
Lemmings, Lemmings and more Lemmings
I took it slowly, expecting a glitter bomb (I’d taken no precautions). It didn’t explode. Instead, the first thing out was Lemmings on tape for the 48K ZX Spectrum, “voted European game of the year”, with a previous owner’s attempt at a foreign-language love note to a crush scribbled inside the inlay. If you can translate it, the comments are open.

Next was Lemmings on Game Gear. Joking aside, I’ve got a Game Gear rebuild with an IPS screen coming up, so I’ll be able to play it in all its IPS glory. Then Lemmings for the Master System, complete, which anyone who knows their Master System collectables will tell you is worth upwards of 10p. It will be perfect under the leg of my wobbly table. (I don’t actually own a Master System, so sorry, Mike.)

Two things amaze me here: that the creator of Lemmings is a patron of my channel, and that he stays one while I relentlessly mock his output.
The genuinely good stuff
Under the Lemmings was a roll of Kester leaded solder, which really is a premium product (a roll like this is worth over £50). I like Kester, but I’ve been using Duratool solder because I couldn’t justify the money, so this is a properly generous gift and will last a long time. Lemmings is still rubbish, though.

Then a plain white box held a Vectrex cartridge, which turned out to be a PiTrex: plug it into a Vectrex, add a Raspberry Pi, and you can run all sorts on original Vectrex hardware. Neil from RMC has been borrowing my Vectrex for an exhibition, and as luck would have it I’d just bought a Raspberry Pi Zero W (rare as unicorn tears). So that will be a video.

And finally: the Bob Ross gummy kit
The last item, padded with the packing stuff I can never get rid of, was a Bob Ross make-your-own gummy kit, made in China and full of flavour powder. It’s the most off-the-wall thing I’ve ever been sent on this channel, and strangely touching. The solder is my favourite, but the Bob Ross kit is the real jewel in the crown.
Thank you Mike. If you want to see what he’s worked on over the years, his site lemmings.info is well worth a browse.
